 K.I.T  delivers IT training and refurbishment of donated computers that will
eventually benefit all Koorie`s families in Victoria as well as remote communities within other states.
 KIT plans to ensure in the future, every Koorie family will not only have ongoing access but also ownership of a computer.

K.I.T= Koorie Information & Technologies=Koorie kids won't be
digitally left behind!!

Koorie people lag behind the mainstream in so many ways, not the least of which is in education. We believe in empowerment through knowledge, and aim to strengthen Koorie people by giving them a share in the knowledge of technology on which our society so much depends. Given that share, we trust that Koorie young people – girls and boys -will become more self-reliant
 and be better prepared for rewarding employment. To get young Koories at risk and channel their interests into productive and creative activities and to make them self-sufficient and not dependent on welfare are our major aims.

KIT is a project designed to ensure that all Koorie families may have ownership of computers so that they – and especially their children - are IT literate and competent with the rapidly developing technology in a changing society, with the aim of achieving a higher level of education and better employment prospects.

KIT will promote a donation system with the aim of providing a computer to every Koorie student with a need for one. After satisfactory completion of a training course, KIT will also train early school leavers and unemployed to acquire qualifications in computer technical support. As well as providing computer training at basic, intermediate and advanced levels.

Literacy and numeracy standards are very low among Koorie people, and the situation will only become worse if they remain digitally illiterate as well. Advice has been sought from Koorie communities throughout Victoria and all have indicated the need for special training in computer skills for our young people. The level of basic computer skills among Koorie youth is very low, and this, coupled with early school-leaving, has had a huge impact on employment opportunities for Koorie youth throughout the state. As so many forms of employment require basic computer skills, young Koorie people are at a distinct disadvantage. However, it is very difficult for them to acquire these skills as the price of computer ownership is out of reach for so many.

The Benefits of K.I.T

- to enable Koorie students to reach a higher level of education than they are presently able to

- to enhance the ability of Koories to gain employment requiring computer skills

- to ensure that, ultimately, every Koorie family has ownership of a computer.

- to extend the programme nation wide.-

providing Indigenous students with appropriate workforce skills and competitiveness to make sure that when they exit education and training, they have the skills, knowledge and attributes that will enable them to become productive and employable workers;

- developing and strengthening partnerships between schools, government, institutions of higher learning, local business structures, industry and Indigenous parents and communities; and

- contributing to addressing the long-term education and employment outcomes of Indigenous communities.

There are obvious social benefits in providing training to young women and men who might otherwise gravitate to welfare and even to anti-social lifestyles. To offer knowledge and skills is to offer self-empowerment and
self-reliance. It is also to give young people hope in their futures.
